Potters Win Home Season Finale

Potters won on Sunday night, sweeping the San Francisco Seals by a score of 3-1. It was the 8th win in a row for the Potters as the team went 8-0 on the final homestand of the season. The game was moving at a quick pace as both teams were held scoreless until the 6th inning when the Seals got a run from a Trevor Greenley RBI groundout. Craig Schmich who would work 6 innings allowing 6 hits, just the 1 run, and struck out 9 batters while walking none was able to limit the damage in that inning. HThe Potters offense struggled to get hits or runs as Seals starter Mikey Contreres kept the hitters off balance with his knuckle ball all game until the bottom of the 6th inning when Matt Lopez hit a long 2 run home run to put the Potters on top in what would be the difference in the game. "You really had to sit on him because of the knuckle ball and that's what I did and when it left the bat it was thrilling because it gave us the lead." said Matt Lopez after the game. The home run would give Craigh Schmich the win for the game. The Potters improved to 33-20 while the Seals fell to 19-31.

The Potters would score another run in the 8th after a Joe Starick, who made his first start after being sidelined for an injury for a few games, singled home Brian Morley. Erik Lopez a would work 2 scoreless innings in relief striking out 2 batters in the process while Tyler Cochran picked up his 5th save of the season and pitched his 5th straight scoreless appearance. When asked about the performances of his pitching staff after the game Ryan Stevens said "Schmich is a professional pitcher he's going to attack every guy they have and just throw strikes. He was never looking to do too much and used 2 pitches to get ahead early and that was big."

When asked about how his team had been feeling about the 8 wins in a row, Ryan Stevens said "We're playing our best baseball at the perfect time. Going into playoffs, it's big to be doing what we are doing right now."

The Potters head out onto the road for 3 games with the Medford Rogues and 3 games with the Chico Heat. The Potters will begin a playoff series with the Medford Rogues on August 5th where they will play in Medford before returning home to Lincoln to finish the 3 game series.
